Congratulations Seattle Youth Garden Works Youth Crew!
This June, 17 members of the Seattle Youth Garden Works Youth Crew graduated from the year-round program. During the ceremony, crew members spoke and reflected on their experiences on the farm: skills they learned, challenges they faced, friends they made and plans they have for the future. About Seattle Youth Garden Works
At Seattle Youth Garden Works, youth gain meaningful employment experience in urban agriculture. People from diverse backgrounds come together to grow food and market a diverse selection of vegetables. In the process they develop leadership skills and personal connections to the food system. Homeless and underserved youth participate in our job training program emphasizing responsibility and growth. They grow, harvest and sell produce at farmers markets, participating in all aspects of the food system and gain a range of employment and life skills.
Education. Empowerment. Employment.
While the farm is the best teaching tool we have, we still supplement that with a well-rounded curriculum that includes everything from gardening and cooking skills to nutrition education, resume building, public speaking and small business training. Youth leave the program better equipped for whatever they want to do in life.
